Professional profile:
I qualified from the University of Bristol in 1999 before starting work as a junior doctor in the South West region.  I undertook a period of training in general medicine both in the UK and Perth, Western Australia and gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2004.
I made the transition into the speciality of anaesthesia in 2004 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2006.  I have since published two books on the basic science of anaesthesia that help junior anaesthetists study for and pass the demanding examinations of the college.  I gained an MA in medical education from the University of Winchester in 2011.
I have been a practising consultant anaesthetist since 2012 when I gained my appointment at the Queen Alexandra hospital in Portsmouth.  As a member of the Portsmouth Anaesthetic Group I provide anaesthesia for all surgical specialties at Spire Portsmouth Hospital also providing emergency anaesthetic cover 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
